Sir Bobby Robson: Former England Football Manager - aged 76-years-old

The death has been announced of Sir Bobby Robson, the former England, Newcastle and Ipswich football manager, who has died of cancer at the age of 76-years-old.

He took England to the semi-finals of the World Cup in Italy in 1990, only to be defeated by the 'hand of God' goal by Diego Marradonna.  He also managed Newcastle United, coming home to his roots there, and took Ipswich to great heights whilst he was manager there as well.
 

Harry Patch: Last surviving UK veteran of World War I - 111-years-old

Harry Patch, the last surviving WWI soldier from the United Kingdom, has died at the age of 111-years-old.

He was conscripted to join the War, and fought in the Battle of Passchendaele. He was injured by shrapnel after just 4 months in battle, and have to have an operation to remove the shrapnel from his body.

He was born in Coomb Down, near Bath, and died in his nursing home in Wells, Somerset.

Mr Patch's death now leaves the United Kingdom with just memories of the events of World War I, as he was the last surviving soldier to fight in the Great War.
 

Walter Cronkite: US TV News Anchorman - 92-years-old

The death has been announced of Walter Cronkite, the TV News anchorman of the United States of America, who has died at the age of 92-years-old.

He presented the news on some of the most major events that happened since World War Two, including the assassination of President John F Kennedy, and when man landed for the first time on the Moon.

He retired from presenting news bulletins in 1985, at the start of cable and satellite TV, and was nominated numerous times as the 'most trusted man in the USA'.
 

Henry Allingham: The World's oldest man - 113-years-old

Henry Allingham, the oldest man on Earth, has died today at the age of 113-years-old.

A World War One veteran, serving in the Royal Naval Air Force, and one of the first to join the Royal Air Force (RAF) when it was created.

Mr Allingham lived through three centuries, was born when Queen Victoria celebrated her Diamond Jubilee and has lived through six monarchs, upto our present Sovereign, Queen Elizabeth II.

He outlived his wife and two daughters, and leaves a 5 grandchildren and their families.
